About
Welcome to my web site. I write about modern web development techniques with a focus on (x)HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. I'm also very interested in Internationalisation, Localisation and web site performance.
I've worked for a number of companies including, most recently, IPC Media, Global Radio and Yahoo! and have been developing sites commercially for 10 years. In the last 3 years I've worked as a technical manager.
Away from work I'm a keen runner. In the distant past I raced a lot over cross country, road and track competing at county and national level. I won a fair number of races and narrowly missed out on running internationally at junior level.
In all cases the opinions expressed on this site are my own and are not necessarily shared by my employer.
Colophon
The code behind this site was thrown together very quickly back in 2005 and hasn't been updated much since. It uses PHP and MySql. I won't talk about how I administer the site - it's embarrassing. Needless to say it's badly in need of a rewrite which I hope I'll find time for sometime soon.
Hosting
This site is hosted by DreamHost, a US based company with great prices and and a comprehensive feature set. They provide support for all the usual technologies and many others such as Ruby on Rails, mod rewrite via .htaccess files and the ability to compile and install software - build and use your own custom version of PHP if you feel like it! If you're interested in signing up be sure to use promo code "ejeliot" for a one off saving of $49.95.
